Poker is a game of skill in which players try to make the best possible hand from five cards. Although there are several variations of poker, most poker games involve a standard 52-card deck.<\/p>\n
Before playing poker, a player needs to decide how much money he or she will be willing to put into the pot. The amount may be fixed in tournaments, but in cash games, the amount may vary. For example, in a fixed limit game, the maximum bet is limited to the number of chips allowed.<\/p>\n
Once the players have placed their bets, the dealer will distribute cards to all the players. Cards are dealt face up. If a player has a pair of aces, for example, the ace is treated as the lowest card.<\/p>\n
