Tsunami is a natural phenomenon that can occur due to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or shifting land under the sea. When a tsunami hits, its impact on the environment is very significant and sustainable. One of the most direct impacts is damage to natural habitats, including coastal ecosystems, mangrove forests and coral reefs. Mangrove forests function as a natural buffer that protects beaches from erosion. In addition, the recovery process is slow and takes years for the ecosystem to return to its original condition. Then, the social impact cannot be ignored. The diversion of resources caused by loss of land and ecosystems means that local communities must adapt to new ways of life. This often leads to social conflict due to competition for limited resources. Climate change also plays a role in exacerbating the impact of tsunamis. Sea level rise and weather changes are increasing the frequency and power of these natural disasters. In this context, understanding the forecast and potential environmental impacts of tsunamis is important for future risk mitigation. Therefore, there needs to be further efforts to restore and protect ecosystems after a tsunami. Initiatives such as reforestation of mangrove forests, rehabilitation of coral reefs, and sustainable resource management are urgently needed. Through greater awareness and collective action, the environmental impact of tsunamis can be minimized and ecosystems can be restored for future generations.
